Junior Scientist Position in Luminescence Dating (OSL)

The Department of Human Evolution of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig (Germany) invites applications for a post-doctoral position in luminescence dating. In the department, palaeoanthropological research is conducted within a multidisciplinary environment involving three main groups of scientists: biological anthropologists, Palaeolithic archeologists, and archaeological scientists/geochronologists. More information about the Department of Human Evolution can be found at http://www.eva.mpg.de/evolution.

We would expect the successful candidate to undertake dating of sites, and geomorphic context of these sites, in regions of interest to the Human Evolution group. Ideally we are also seeking a researcher who undertakes fundamental research into luminescence dating and who therefore contributes to the continued development of the field.  The Human Evolution department also has a strong interest in radiocarbon dating and aims to build up a strong geochronology sub-group. We are therefore particularly interested in a researcher who will interact with other geochronologists, palaeoanthropologists and archaeologists within the department.

This research position may begin in January, 2014. The initial length of the appointment is two years, with an option for extension. The selected candidate will have a Ph.D. (or be close to completion) and a significant track record of research. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more physically impaired individuals and to increasing the share of women in areas where they are underrepresented, and therefore expressly encourages applications from such qualified individuals.

For further information please contact Dr Kathryn Fitzsimmons (kathryn_fitzsimmons@eva.mpg.de).
Applications, including cover letter, curriculum vitae, reprints of selected publications, a short statement of research interests, and the names of three referees should be sent by mail to the address below. The search for these positions will continue until a successful candidate has been selected.
